Hi! I'm Maria Finn, and I am very happy to be teaching your child at Big Hollow Elementary School. There are so many interesting things we will be learning about in 4th grade! I am extremely confident that it will be a successful, enjoyable, and memorable experience for us all. I was born and spent most of my childhood in Chicago, IL. I am very happy to say that I still have a few very close friends from 1st grade! My husband Tom and I currently live in McHenry, IL, with our two children, Devin (a US Army soldier) 21, and Brittany (a graphic arts student) 20, along with our happy 2 year old Goldendoodle named Sadie. My family came to America from Italy, and I am fluent in Italian. I'm sure your child will learn a few Italian words and phrases this year. :)
I attended Northeastern Illinois University and proudly received my Bachelors of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 2003, with a minor in Psychology. I also hold endorsements in Middle School General Science and Social Science. In addition to my passion for teaching and child development, my interests include reading (I love a good mystery!), the Arts (I love to paint!), and playing golf! Also, I really enjoy travelling with my family and learning about interesting new places.
Mission For The Class
I want my students to gain a deep appreciation for learning, to always be curious, and never give up. I am always emphasizing that learning is a lifelong adventure that really can be fun! I continually strive to provide my class with a learning environment where every student (and teacher) shows mutual respect and support towards one another throughout the school year. I provide a safe learning environment and want each student to feel special and challenged to do their best. I work together with parents and families to ensure that every student reaches their full learning potential. I look forward to having a great school year!
